Kimberly Underwood
Retired Atlanta Police Gang Investigator


The Background
Kimberly Underwood is the second oldest of five siblings. She was born in Warm Springs, Georgia, and raised in Atlanta. She grew up in the Adamsville community where she attended G. A. Towns Elementary School and Harper High School. She completed high school in Manchester, Georgia in 1990. She joined the Atlanta Police Department at age 19. She became a sworn officer at age 21 and served the city of Atlanta as a patrol officer and police detective. She earned a Criminal Justice degree from Columbia Southern University.

The Foreground
Kimberly is now a retired Atlanta Police Department Detective, having served for 31 years. She spent nearly half of her law enforcement career working as a gang detective. She is also a POST certified gang instructor. She has returned to the Atlanta Police Department and currently works as a mentor and trainer in the Gang Unit. She also continues to teach gang classes at the police academy.



The Playground
When Kimberly is not training new officers and investigators for the Atlanta Police Department, she devotes her time to mentoring and volunteering with our youth. She joined Clippers and Cops because she is passionate about youth development and community service. When it comes to our youth, she believes that it takes a village. She enjoys spending time with family and her new hobby of horseback riding.
